Troy’s love for fishing began at just eight years old. He was the only one in his family who shared that passion, but that never stopped him. With a rod in hand and a bike as his ride, he’d head out solo to stocked trout ponds or the river winding through town—anywhere he could cast a line and feel a little more alive outdoors.

By age 12, Troy was enrolled in his first hunter education and survival course. That same year, he joined the military cadets, jumping at every chance to sign up for survival trips and sailing camps. These experiences only deepened his bond with the natural world. Though fishing wasn’t a family pastime, his parents encouraged his love for it, even driving him to Alberta’s west country so he could roam the rivers and chase trout on his own.

Everything changed at 17 when Troy bought his first fly rod. That was it—he was hooked. With a driver’s license in hand and a new obsession with fly fishing, he spent every spare moment exploring mountain rivers and immersing himself in the craft.

At 19, Troy moved to Abbotsford, BC, where year-round fishing gave him a whole new canvas to explore. From stillwater trout to powerful river-run salmon, he took on the challenge of new species, heavier rods, and unfamiliar waters. A decade later, he returned to Red Deer, Alberta, carrying with him a deeper appreciation for the sport and a drive to share it with others.

In 2014, Troy took a leap and opened his own fly shop—bringing his dream to life. The shop became more than just a place to buy gear; it was a hub for community, learning, and connection. It also opened the door to guiding, where Troy found his true calling: helping others fall in love with fly fishing. Whether it’s teaching someone how to cast, walking a beginner through their first catch, or guiding a seasoned angler into wild water, Troy is there to make it meaningful.

He’s not just passionate about fly fishing—he’s passionate about people, and creating moments that stick with you long after the line goes slack.
