I AM NEW TO FLY FISHING, IS THE DRIFT BOAT TRIP FOR ME?
Yes, the Drift boat is an incredible way to learn to fly fish. The drift boat does all the work, and is less on you having to casting so far. Having said that, the walk n wade is a great place to start your fly fishing journey as well, but don't think the Drift Boat is only for accomplished anglers, it is not true!
Do i tip my guide, and if so how much?
Tips are not mandatory, but they are customary. Our guides will work hard for you no matter what, as that is their integrity and commitment to making your day on the water special. A tip is a nice way of say thank you, similar to treating a waitress in a restaurant who you feel made your experience extra special. A good reference point in where tipping is starts is $100/day/boat. Cash tips are much appreciated, and given directly to your guide at the end of the day.
Are you a fly shop?
No, we are not a fly shop. We are an independent outfitter, who's main focus is on the guiding, and your day on the water.
Do you pickup from hotels?
Because we are not a brick n mortar fly shop, we have the potential to pick you up. Although we have the ability to pick you up, there is some locations that are not conducive for our guides. Please let us know ahead of time where you are staying, so we can try and make arrangements for you and your group!
Where do we meet the guides?
We usually meet at a very central location which is very close to river. Your guide will contact you the day before and set up your location with you!
I AM NEW, CAN I BOOK A GUIDED TRIP?
Yes, we would love to teach you and spend a day on the river with you! Please contact us so we can help set up your day.
what is our cancelation policy?
All of our deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE. We HIGHLY recommend trip cancelation and interruption insurance, as nobody can for-see all the reasons you are unable to make your trip. We do have the ability to transfer deposits if done outside 30 days of your booked trip. Any booked date moved within 30 days will be subject to a $200 date move. Remaining balance to be paid within 14 days of booked day. Any trip booked within 14 days must be paid in full at the time of booking, non refundable. The reason for non-refundable deposits, is that we only use our guides at FFBRO, and we do not use extended guides ( known as the guide pool). Once we have all of our guides listed on our website booked for the day, we turn away trips. Think of it as a limited resource, and when you put a deposit down, you take a guide off the calendar for being available ( as they are booked for your trip). Not all outfitters/shops run this way, as they will continue to take bookings and look for guides later. We value you and your time on the water, and believe only using FFBRO guides is giving our guests the best experience possible. We do not cancel trips due to bad weather, but we will cancel trips if the river is unsafe, or un-fishable. In this scenario, your deposit will be transferable, or refundable depending what works best for your situation.
What is time of day restrictions?
Time of day angling restrictions will be implemented when water temperatures and flows reach certain thresholds. As such, AEP will monitor temperature and flow data from flowing waters across southwestern Alberta; however, all decisions on time of day angling restrictions are made based upon conditions recorded at the Bow River monitoring station at Carseland. This station provides real-time water temperature and flow information, which allows AEP to compare real-time information to the thresholds set to protect fish during these high-risk periods.
The thresholds that have been set to protect fish (based on the protection of trout) are:
The thresholds that have been set to protect fish (based on the protection of trout) are:
- when water temperatures exceed 20°C for three or more consecutive days and,
- when flows in the Bow River are below the 25th water flow percentile for 4 or more days at that time of year as measured at the Carseland monitoring station.
