Lower Bow River Float Trips – Calgary to Carseland

If there’s one float that defines our guiding season, this is it.
The Lower Bow River, beginning in the heart of Calgary and stretching southeast to Carseland, is widely considered one of the finest blue ribbon trout fisheries in the world—and for good reason. With wild rainbow and brown trout averaging 18–22 inches, and legitimate shots at fish pushing 26”+ every season, this stretch is where dreams get netted. But it’s not just about the fish.

As the river winds out of the city and into the foothills, you’ll witness a transition few expect--from urban energy to wide-open wilderness in minutes. Cottonwood-lined banks give way to sandstone cliffs. Deer and foxes move through the brush. Bald eagles perch above deep runs. Pelicans drift through oxbows. It’s a bird-watcher’s paradise, and an angler’s obsession.

Floating this section gives us access to miles of prime water you simply can’t reach on foot. We fish from the boat and stop at our favorite gravel bars and seams—places that have produced countless memories, and more than a few personal bests. You’ll fish everything from drifting nymph rigs through classic tailouts, to swinging streamers in juicy bends. And when the hatch lines up? There’s nothing like sight-casting a dry fly to a rising trout in crystal-clear current.

Trophy fisheries earn their reputation because the fish are wild, smart, and conditioned by pressure. These trout don’t fall for the first fly that floats by—and that’s exactly what makes it so rewarding. Every eat is earned, and when it happens, it feels electric. We Love to teach, and help beginners , or first timers experience this magic!

Whether it’s your first float or your fiftieth, this stretch of the Bow never gets old. Every day on this river has the chance to be the one you talk about for years.

Welcome to our backyard. Let’s chase something wild.

Downtown Calgary Float/BOW RIVER - Calgary
Float a piece of the Bow River that has just recently been opened up to drift boat access.  This section of the Bow River floats right through the downtown core of the City of Calgary.  Although the fish population is not considered Blue Ribbon for this stretch, there is still world class brown trout, as well as plenty of Bow River rainbows that fight just as well as any stretch of the river.  A unique approach to this section of the river, is that we get to run the Kayak course in the drift boat, as well as the last leg of the float is in the Blue Ribbon section of the Bow River.  During this float, we can choose to stop in at a downtown restaraunt for a pub lunch, or grab a coffee at a coffee shop in the city.  When you do this float, all the Downtown calgary business people watch on with jealousy as you are fishing the world famous Bow River. Definitely a section of the river you must see if you're staying for a few days.  Let us design this unique day around your needs!

Upper Bow River Float – Banff / Canmore
The Upper Bow River near Banff and Canmore isn’t known for its fishing the way the Lower Bow is,and we won’t pretend otherwise. If your goal is numbers or size, you’re better off heading just an hour downstream to Calgary, where the Lower Bow holds abundant trout and consistent action on a good day. But what the Upper Bow lacks in big fish, it makes up for in mountain magic. This float is all about the experience. Surrounded by rugged peaks and glacier-fed channels, the scenery is simply unbeatable. Elk, eagles, and crisp alpine air accompany you as you drift through some of the most breathtaking river country in the Rockies. You’ll still find wild brown trout here, typically in the 8–10 inch range, and they’ll often come up to eat dry flies—especially in the summer. But make no mistake: this is a scenic float first, and a fishery second. Think light rods, technical casts, and the occasional rise in clear water. If you’re planning a multi-day trip, then maybe the Upper Bow float is a fantastic addition for those who want to experience every face of the Bow River. Just know what you’re signing up for: more views than fish, and that’s not always a bad thing.

Limited availability. Best enjoyed by anglers who appreciate beauty as much as bites.
